Cookie Policy BolognaBites

Last updated: October 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how BolognaBites uses cookies and similar technologies. BolognaBites is operated by Aukroam, based in the Netherlands.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They can help websites function properly, remember preferences, measure performance, and support features such as analytics and affiliate tracking.

How BolognaBites Uses Cookies

BolognaBites may use cookies for the following purposes:

• essential website functionality
• remembering user preferences
• measuring website traffic and performance
• understanding how visitors interact with pages
• supporting affiliate link tracking and reporting
• enabling embedded content or third-party tools

Types of Cookies We May Use

Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function properly and generally do not require consent where legally exempt.

Analytics Cookies

These cookies help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve performance and content.

Functional Cookies

These cookies remember settings or preferences to improve usability.

Local Storage (My Bologna Trip)

Trip Check and My Trip store your trip choices in your browser’s local storage so that you can come back to them. This is a technical, functional storage on your own device. It contains no account, name or email address and is not shared with advertisers. You can remove it by pressing Start over in My Trip, by removing the items one by one, or by clearing your browser’s site data.

Affiliate or Marketing-Related Cookies

These cookies may help attribute bookings, clicks, or referrals to affiliate partners or platforms. When you click an affiliate link, our booking partner (such as GetYourGuide or Expedia) may set its own cookies on its own website. On bolognabites.com itself, clicking an affiliate link is recorded as an analytics event, which falls under the Statistics category below and is only recorded after you give consent. If you accept marketing cookies, a script from our affiliate network Travelpayouts also loads on our pages to measure visits and link clicks; without that consent it does not load.

Because Aukroam is based in the Netherlands, Dutch and EU cookie rules apply. Under this guidance, tracking cookies require consent, while some functional and limited analytical cookies may be exempt from cookie consent requirements.

Advertising Cookies

BolognaBites shows display advertising through Journey by Mediavine. Mediavine and its advertising partners set cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads and, where you allow it, to personalise them. Where the law requires consent, for example in the European Economic Area, they are only set after you give consent in the consent banner. You can withdraw consent at any time with the Privacy Settings link in the footer.

Consent

Where required by law, BolognaBites will ask for your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device.

You can withdraw or change your cookie preferences at any time using the cookie settings tool below. It is always available on this page, and withdrawing consent is as simple as giving it.

Your Cookie Settings

If the Mediavine consent banner is shown to you, it replaces the tool above: use Privacy Settings in the footer to review or withdraw your choices.

Managing Cookies

You can usually manage or delete cookies in your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect how the site works.

Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies may be placed by third-party services used on the website, including Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager (statistics), our affiliate and booking partners such as GetYourGuide and Expedia (when you follow an affiliate link), and, where used, embedded maps, videos, or social media widgets. Those third parties may have their own cookie and privacy policies. Advertising cookies are set by Mediavine and its advertising partners, who are listed in the consent banner.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we update it, we will update the date shown on this page.
